Joomla! is a content management systems (CMS) that allows for front end access users to contribute to websites built on the platform. No coding or HTML skills are required and is ideal for multiplte users to contribute content, usually in the form of articles to the growth of a website.

Joomla! is open source.

Anybody can use Joomla! as the platform itself is open source and most of the extensions used to customize a website are free as well. What may be some slight limitations in design (3 or 4 columns with header and footer) can well be made up for in customizing banners, color schemes, and modules.

Joomla! sites look like most other websites.

The websites may look the same, but you don't need to know Dreamweaver, HTML, FTP or any other software to update and manage your Joomla! website.

Login page.

You simply go to a special login page for the website and put in your details (1) and click login (2).

Access.

You are then brought to an area where you can do many things to your Joomla! website, but we are just going to describe how to add an article here, which is probably the most common reason to be logging into your website, at least once it's set up.

Add article.

I will be adding this article from ezinearticles to the website. Remember to include the author's resource box at the bottom of the article.

Front page

If you want this article to appear on the front page, which usually is a good idea of you have a blog formatted front page, then click "YES" (1) to front page. If not leave it on "NO". Watch for spelling mistakes as they will be hilighted with a red underline. Just right clik them and search for the correction in the drop out menu.

Most articles should be broken up, so that the entire article does not appear on the blog page. You just want the first paragraph there with a read more link that leads the reader to the erest of the article. This allows for clips of several articles to be on the main page, all linking to thier own page, if the reader chooses to go there. By clicking "READ MORE" a separator line will be placed wherever the cursor had been left (2).

Add publishing details.

Make sure the correct author is displayed (1). Post a publishing date (2). Then press APPLY which is kind of like SAVE, excpet it will still keep you in this editing area after you APPLY. I often do this first and look at the website in another browser to check for the published article.

Check published article.

Here is the lead-in on the "health blog page. From there, click read more to be sure the link is working.

Article is good.

The lead in is fine, the article is in the right section, and looks good.

Article is done.
