When I see a good idea in another video, I have have no problem in ripping it and using it for myself, of course with my own twist. Case in point, I recently saw this video for Andy Jenkins Kajabi launch and picked out a transition that I really liked.
Modified transcript below, finished transition (video) bottom of page: Closing gates/doors as a transition.![]() A transition like this negates using all of the standard transitions found in screenflow and keynote, which are simply not unique anymore because so many video producers have access to these programs. In that sense, I like creating effects that make my videos unique. In this video, the transition from page-to-page actually takes place behind these drop in images. So let's see how we can recreate it. Create the image for the transition.![]() I found this website that has lots of patterns and images that have real qualities to them. I chose this metal panel here and created a rectangular gate out of it that would fit approximately half of the video screen of a 1280 X 720 video. I used photoshop for the editing. Import image into Screenflow.![]() 1. Import the image into the media folder of screenflow. 2. Bring it onto the timeline of the video where you want the transition. 3. Then align the door over the top half of your video. This is just for measuring purposes, as we will actually be moving it off the screen to start. Duplicate the image, and rotate it 180 degrees.![]() Simply copy and paste the first gate, then rotate the second one and position it so that the closed position of the gates will cover your entire video. Align gates, and position off screen.![]() 1. Since the starting position of the gates is off screen we have to now move them to the top and bottom of the video just nudged off the edge of the screen space. 2. Make sure the images are aligned in the workflow. Add transitions.![]() Add video transition to both gates that will bring them to back to the centre of the video and cover the entire screen. 1. Be sure that the video actions start and stop at the exact same time. Now open the gates slightly with additional video actions.![]() 1. Now I have added the slight opening to reveal the section title with additional video actions. Again they are timed exactly the same. 2. The gates just open slightly here and stop again in this position. Open gates fully now.![]() 1. Now I have added the third video action, (transition) which opens the gate fully and brings them off screen. Add audio.![]() 1. 2. and 3. Add audio files with each video action, to make the transitions sound real. Copy and paste transition.![]() Now what you want to do is copy and paste all of the transition elements together, and paste to the end of your screenflow workflow. This way, whenever the transition is required again during the video, you can just copy and paste the moving gates to where they are needed. You can even import them into an entirely different screenflow project.
Here is the finished transition:
